Reggae er en musikksjanger som oppsto p\u00e5 Jamaica p\u00e5 slutten av 1960-tallet. Den kjennetegnes ved at det legges stor vekt p\u00e5 bass og trommer. I tillegg til bruken av off-beat-rytmer og synkoperte gitar- og keyboardlinjer. Vi kjenner denne sjangeren for sine sosiale og politiske kommentarer. Tekstene tar ofte opp temaer som fattigdom, urettferdighet og rasisme. Opprinnelsen til reggae kan spores tilbake til ska- og rocksteady-sjangrene som oppstod p\u00e5 Jamaica p\u00e5 1960-tallet. Andre kjente reggaeartister fra denne epoken er Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh og Toots and the Maytals. De bidro til \u00e5 popularisere sjangeren og bringe den ut til et bredere publikum. P\u00e5 1980- og 1990-tallet fortsatte reggaen \u00e5 utvikle seg. Artister som Steel Pulse og Burning Spear inkorporerte elementer fra funk, rock og verdensmusikk i lydbildet sitt. I dag er reggae fortsatt en viktig og innflytelsesrik musikksjanger. Artister fra hele verden fortsetter \u00e5 trekke veksler p\u00e5 dens rytmer og temaer.
